Faculty

Instructors who have been assigned to teach or develop a new online course are invited to complete the Teaching and Learning Online (TLO) course. The course provides step-by-step guidance for building or re-designing an online course. The TLO course is available to all instructors who are interested in learning to teach online.

Graduate Students

UMass Boston doctoral students interested in learning to teach online are welcome to enroll in the Teaching and Learning Online course. To fully benefit from the practical lessons in the course, students should come prepared with a Syllabus for a course they have been assigned to teach or use a Syllabus from a course they’ve taken as a student.

About the Teaching and Learning Online Course

The course is composed of 14 practical mini lessons with hands-on exercises to apply in your course. Personalized feedback is provided by experts from the Learning Design Services. Upon completion, participants will have an online course ready to be released to students, and will earn a digital badge and completion certificate through the Canvas Credentials platform.

To enroll, please complete the form below. Please use your UMass Boston email for all correspondence related to this program.

Please note: We have begun the transition to the Canvas LMS system and are now offering the TLO training in Canvas. All new online courses should be developed in Canvas. If you need access to Blackboard training because you are teaching an existing course, please email rrezarta.agimi@umb.edu.

Incredibly useful! I appreciated the quick responses, and helpful links that were sent along the way...

This course was extremely useful! Before I began, I thought some of the topics were obvious, but I realized there is more to online learning. It is a science, and there are always things that can improve course quality.

The feedback I received has been very helpful and encouraging. My facilitators really paid detailed attention to my work and correctly pointed out some room for improvement. They are also very prompt in answering follow-up questions. Overall, I am very satisfied with this course.

Great overview of online course design. I was somewhat familiar with everything covered, but I did learn new methods, helpful tips, and better practices.
